Kedarnath Update: Pilgrimage Continues Amid Tight Security and Weather Challenges
KEDARNATH, UTTARAKHAND – The sacred town of Kedarnath, one of India’s most revered pilgrimage sites, is currently witnessing a high influx of devotees despite facing tough weather conditions and tightened security following recent incidents in the region.
Over 25,000 pilgrims are reaching Kedarnath Dham daily as part of the Char Dham Yatra, and authorities have intensified safety and logistic measures to ensure smooth operations in the challenging Himalayan terrain.
Weather Warnings Issued
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alerts for the higher reaches of Rudraprayag and Chamoli due to possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall and landslides in the coming days. Helicopter services from Phata, Guptkashi, and Sirsi remain operational but are on standby due to fluctuating visibility and cloudy conditions.
Security Heightened After Helicopter Crash
Just days after the tragic helicopter crash near Garud Chatti, which claimed seven lives, the state government has directed aviation operators to follow strict weather guidelines, and DGCA teams have been deployed for real-time monitoring of flight operations.
Police and disaster response teams have also been stationed at vulnerable points on the trek route between Gaurikund and Kedarnath.

Pilgrims have been advised to:
Pre-register online before visiting
Carry warm clothing, medicines, and rain gear
Avoid night travel in higher altitudes
Follow local instructions from SDRF and police
Despite the rough terrain and spiritual trials, pilgrims continue to arrive with unwavering faith, chanting “Har Har Mahadev” as they undertake the 18 km trek to the Kedarnath temple.
