Rudraprayag, June 15, 2025 – In a tragic incident that has cast a shadow over the ongoing Chardham Yatra, a helicopter carrying pilgrims to the Kedarnath shrine crashed near Garud Chatti, approximately 1.5 km from the temple, killing all seven people on board, including the pilot.
What Happened?
According to initial reports, the helicopter—belonging to a private aviation company—took off from Phata helipad and was en route to Kedarnath when it lost control around 11:45 AM. The aircraft reportedly crashed due to low visibility caused by fog and sudden weather changes, though officials are yet to confirm the exact cause.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident.
Victims Identified
As per local administration, all six pilgrims and one pilot on board died on the spot. Rescue teams rushed to the crash site immediately after the incident, but no survivors were found. The identities of the victims are being verified, and families are being contacted.
Chief Minister Reacts
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow and ordered a high-level probe into the crash. He stated:
“This is a heartbreaking incident. I have instructed officials to ensure all assistance is provided to the families of the deceased. A full investigation will be conducted to understand what went wrong.”
